J Am Med Assoc 1913; 61:1713–1716. nastąpiły poważne zmiany w taksonomii tych gatunków (pierwsza połowa lat 90.) Poprzednie miana: Rochalimaea/Wolhynia/Rickettsia quintana, Rickettsia pediculi, Rickettsia/Burnetia/Rochalimaea wolhynica, Rickettsia weigl sugerowały ścisły związek z rodziną Rickettsiaceae. Obecnie na podstawie badań DNA dowiedziono, że większe pokrewieństwo istnieje z rodzajami Brucella i AgrobacteriumBrenner DJ, O'Connor SP, Winkler HH, et al: Proposals to unify the genera Bartonella and Rochalimaea, with descriptions of Bartonella quintana comb. nov., Bartonella vinsonii comb. nov., Bartonella henselae comb. nov., and Bartonella elizabethae comb. nov., and to remove the family Bartonellaceae from the order Rickettsiales.
