Biografía El so verdaderu nome yera William Schloss, y nació en Nueva York, nel senu d'una familia d'orixe xudíu. Schloss significa castiellu ("castle") n'alemán, polo que Castle probablemente tradució'l so apellíu al inglés pa evitar la discriminación que dacuando soportaben los artistes xudíos de la dómina. La mayor parte de la so adolescencia pasar trabayando en Broadway en diverses ocupaciones que diben dende'l montaxe de decoraos hasta l'actuación. Esto dio-y una bona preparación pa la direición, y a los 23 años d'edá treslladóse a Hollywood, onde dirixó'l so primer filme seis años más tarde. Amás trabayó como ayudante de direición d'Orson Welles, encargándose de gran parte del trabayu de llocalizaciones de la segunda unidá de la película The Lady from Shanghai, dirixida por aquél.
Castle foi famosu por dirixir películes con munches novedaes, que promovía ambiciosamente, a pesar de ser davezu títulos de baxu presupuestu de la serie B. Cinco d'eses producciones fueron escrites pol novelista d'aventures Robb White. N'años posteriores se versionaron dos de los sos filmes, House on Haunted Hill en 1999, y 13 Ghosts en 2001 (la postrera col títulu de Thirteen Ghosts).
Tamién produció y tuvo un curtiu papel non faláu na película de Roman Polanski Rosemary's Baby (1968). Según la documentación del so estrenu en DVD, Castle quería dirixir el filme, pero l'estudiu aportunó en contratar otru direutor dada la reputación que Castle llograra col so trabayu previu.
Tres una llarga carrera, William Castle finó en Los Angeles, California, por causa de un infartu agudu de miocardiu. Ta soterráu nel Campusantu Forest Lawn Memorial Park de Glendale (California).
