Taejo de Joseon (27 d'octubre de 1335 fins al 18 de juny de 1408,. R 1392-1398), nascut com a Yi Seong-gye, el seu canvi de nom és Yi Dan, va ser el fundador i primer rei de la dinastia Joseon de Corea, i la figura principal en derrocar el rei U, el darrer de la dinastia Goryeo.
Pòsthumamanent va ser elevat al rang d'emperador el 1899 per Gojong, l'emperador Gwangmu, que haviia proclamat l'Imperi de Corea el 1897.
Malgrat que ell derrocà el regne de Goryeo, i es va dedicar a purgar els funcionaris que van romadre lleials a l'antic règim, moltes opinions el consideren un revolucionari i un governant decisiu. Va portar els coreans a reconstruir i descobrir encara més la seva cultura.
