Gillian Rubinstein, nada o 29 de agosto de 1942, é unha autora e dramaturga de obras infantís de orixe inglesa.
Rubinstein naceu en Potten End, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, Inglaterra, pero pasou a súa infancia entre Inglaterra e Nixeria, mudándose a Australia en 1973.
Traxectoria Ademais de oito obras de teatro, moitas historias curtas e numerosos artigos, escribiu aproximadamente 30 libros. A súa popular e premiada ópera prima, Space Demons presentaba temáticas como as dos mundos fantásticos e o feito de facerse maior que xorden a miúdo nas súas outras obras. Libros como At Ardilla, Foxspell e Galax-Arena recibiron o aplauso da crítica e múltiples premios.
En 2001, Rubinstein rematou Across the Nightingale Floor, o primeiro dos libros da serie que foi un éxito en vendas Tales of the Otori, baixo o pseudónimo de Lian Hearn. A serie localízase nunha illa nación que se asemella ao Xapón feudal e foi a primeira das súas obras que chegou ao público adulto.
O nome 'Lian' vén dun alcume de infancia e 'Hearn' refírese probablemente ós herons, un tema fundamental na serie. Tense suxerido tamén que o apelido probablemente o tomara prestado de Lafcadio Hearn; un dos primeiros escritores occidentais que abordou a mitoloxía xaponesa.
En 2011 Gillian Rubinstein residía en Goolwa, Australia do Sur.
