A margitvirág (Leucanthemum) a fészkesvirágzatúak (Asterales) rendjébe és az őszirózsafélék (Asteraceae) családjába tartozó nemzetség.
Előfordulásuk A margitvirágfajok eredeti előfordulási területe Európa legnagyobb része, beleértve a Brit-szigeteket és az Arktisz, valamint a Földközi-tenger egyes szigeteit is. Azonban nem őshonosak Norvégiában, Dániában és a Németalföldön. Ennek a növénynemzetségnek az ázsiai elterjedése főleg Szibériában, Közép-Ázsiában, Iránban, a Kaukázus északi felén és Törökországban található meg. Az ember egyes fajokat, vagy azok termesztett változatait, illetve hibridjeit széthordta a nagyvilágba. Manapság minden kontinensen élnek vadonnövő margitvirág állományok.
