Az Isthmohyla a kétéltűek (Amphibia) osztályába és a békák (Anura) rendjébe a levelibéka-félék (Hylidae) családjába és a Hylinae alcsaládba tartozó nem. Egy nemrégen történt felülvizsgálat eredményeképpen a Hyla nem 15 faja került át ebbe a családba., 2005: Systematic Review of the Frog Family Hylidae, with Special Reference to Hylinae: Phylogenetic Analysis and Taxonomic Revision. Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History, Num. 294, pp.1-240. . Ezek a békafajok Costa Rica és Panama endemikus fajai.
