Полезные энтомофаги-паразитоиды. Встречаются повсеместно. Один из крупнейших родов насекомых, включает более 1000 видов.
Описание Мелкого размера перепончатокрылые насекомые (обычно 2—4 мм), буровато-чёрные (ноги светлее). 2-я радиомедиальная ячейка переднего крыла отсутствует. 1-я радиомедиальная жилка отходит от радиальной жилки. Усики 18-члениковые. Жвалы 2-зубые. Эндопаразиты гусениц бабочек. Многие виды имеют хозяйственное значение для борьбы с вредителями сельского и лесного хозяйства. Это паразиты подгрызающих совок (Apanteles telengai), листовёрток (Apanteles ater), капустной моли (Apanteles plutellae), боярышницы и капустницы (Apanteles glomeratus) и яблонной моли-малютки (Apanteles circumscriptus), паразиты вредителей зерна и сухофруктов (Apanteles carpatus), и другие.
